Neil D. Isaacs

Neil Isaacs is Professor of English Emeritus at the University of Maryland, College Park where he completed his teaching career after forty years. In an overlapping career, he practiced as a family therapist for twenty years. He has published three novels, the last one in 2009, The Doaker’s Story. His other books include clinical studies (pathological gambling, couples counseling), sports history and analysis, cultural studies, and literary studies (from Old English to contemporary fiction). Other publications include sections of books, newspaper columns, and contributions to learned journals, mass-market magazines, and obscure quarterlies.

Distinguished readers who have praised his published work include David Broder, Matthew Bruccoli, Wilma Dyckman, Irvin Faust, George Garrett, Lamar Herrin, Kay Redfield Jamison, Dave Kindred, Larry King, Jerry Klinkowitz, Tony Kornheiser, Tom LeClair, Susan Leonardi, Jay Neugeboren, Dan Simon, and Irvin Yalom. He has been honored to collaborate on books with the brilliant basketball coach, Dick Motta; the accomplished writers, Rachel Maddux and Stirling Silliphant; the wise sage of American sport philosophy, Jack Higgs; and the inimitable literary critic, Rose Zimbardo. Two of his short stories have been contest prize winners, and his NHL history was the first annual winner of the Sonahhr Sun God Award for outstanding hockey research.
